Mary Selene Gilliam Walker

Mrs. Mary Selene Gilliam Walker, 92, resident of Parkview Drive in Columbia, died Sunday morning at Maury Regional Medical Center.Funeral services for Mrs. Walker will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday at Oakes and Nichols with Tom Gilliam officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends from 4-8 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be extended at OakesandNichols.com.Born March 23, 1922 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Gray and Emmie Virginia Doyle Gilliam. On August 13, 1949 Selene married Gerald Walker who preceded her in death on March 3, 1983. Mrs. Walker retired from Southern Bell. After her retirement, she worked as front desk clerk at the Randall Hotel and also worked at Factory Suite Store doing alterations. She was a member of West 7th Street Church of Christ for over 65 years, having taught the 1st grade Sunday school class and was a Maury Regional Auxiliary Superstar.Mrs. Walker is survived by her son, Jerry Walker of Columbia; sister, Mrs. Marie Pilkinton of Columbia; sister-in-law, Nell Gilliam of Columbia; nephew, Thomas Kinzer Gilliam of Blacksburg, VA; and nieces, Judy Pilkinton Bennett of Hampshire, Betty Pilkinton Lofton of Thompson Station and Deborah Gilliam Quinn of Woodstock, GA. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Leon Gilliam and brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Alma Lee Gilliam.Active pallbearers will be Jerry Elder, Jeremy Butt, J.B. Long, C.T. Johnson, Grant Dillard, Hollis Morrison, Jake Brady and Brandon Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Blakenship, Helen Sanders, Phyllis Goad, Lucy Church, Sandy Schmirel, Cindy Farmer, Dr. John Simmons, Wanda and John Smith, Faye Kinzer, Ann Phoenix, Dorothy Witherow, Diane Porter, Marguerite and Jeff Porter, Joyce and Bill Jackson, Lucille Potts, Carnice White, Eddie Lovett, Evelyn Lovett, Joe Duvall, Bob Sweeney, the Porter King Auditorium Class at West 7th and operations department at First Farmer and Merchants Bank.
