Maurice Glenn "Bud" Hurt, 93, long-time farmer and dairyman and former resident of the Nashville Highway, died Friday, March 7, 2014 at Life Care of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Keith Sherwood officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Neapolis United Methodist Church, P. O. Born in the Spring Hill Community, he was the son of the late Frank Hurt and Minnie Ring Hurt. Active in the affairs of the community all his life, he was member of Neapolis United Methodist Church, Spring Hill Lions Club, and former Director of Maury Farmers Co-Op. He married the former Betty Ann Butler on January 31, 1953, Their 60 year marriage ended with her death March 19, 2013. Survivors include sisters-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Hurt of Franklin, Martha Butler (James) Lee of Spring Hill and Ethel Watkins Butler of Columbia; brothers-in-law, Joe B. (Emily) Butler and Jack (Wanda) Butler, both of Columbia; nieces and nephews, Brenda (Cary) Blue, Linda (Bill) McMillin, Janet Butler (Phil) Sutherland, Bill Hurt, Jimmy (Mary) Hurt, Ray (Melinda) Grigsby, Lee Grigsby, David (Kari) Butler, and Mike (Sonya) Butler; several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Lois Hurt and Bernice Grigsby; brother, Sterling Hurt; and nephew, Reed Butler. His brother-in-law, James E. "Jimmy" Butler died Saturday March 8, 2014. Active pallbearers are Jason Dodson, Kent Langley, Robin Langley, Jimmy Hurt, Bobby Joe Hurt, Walter Hurt, Bill Hurt, Mike Butler. Honorary pallbearers include members of Neapolis United Methodist Church. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the Alzheimer's Unit and other staff of Life Care of Columbia.
