Melvin Wright Hindman

Melvin Wright Hindman, 84, a resident of Lynnville, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at his residence.

Mr. Hindman was born in Giles County, Tennessee, to the late James Andrew “Jim” Hindman and the late Pauline Hayes Hindman. He married the love of his life, Ruby Noveline Uptain, on August 26, 1961. They shared 63 wonderful years together until her passing on October 25, 2024.

Melvin was a hardworking and devoted family man who took great pride in providing for those he loved. In his early years, he enjoyed hunting and was an avid ham radio operator. He also loved riding and racing motorcycles and had a natural talent for tinkering with all kinds of electronics. He could often be found outdoors, where he felt most at home.

Throughout his life, Melvin farmed tobacco for several years, helped build bridges, and spent the majority of his career as a crane operator with Uptain Construction. He later retired from the City of Columbia.

He is survived by his daughter, Dina (Mike) Daniels; grandchildren, Dara (Keith) Crabtree, Fara (Seth) Paul, Chad Brown, and Jordan Hindman; great-grandchildren, Preslee Crabtree, Emeree Crabtree, Kade Brown, Isley Kate Hindman, and Rhett Paul; sister, Elizabeth Holt; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruby Uptain Hindman, and his son, Melvin Hindman, Jr.

A private graveside service will be conducted Sunday, April 26, 2026, at Polk Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Online condolences may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com
