View Funeral Webcast Melvin Grady Reaves, 71, retired employee of McDonnell-Douglas Air Craft, died Thursday, January 6, 2011 at his residence on Candlewood Court. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Graymere Church of Christ with John Vaughan officiating. Entombment will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will visit with friends Saturday after 5:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home and Sunday after 1:00 P.M. at the church. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Cooter, Missouri, he was the son of the late Grady Conley Reaves and Ruby Mae Tart Reaves. He was a graduate of Campbell Missouri High School and retired from McDonnell-Douglas after thirty-seven years service. A member and deacon of Graymere Church of Christ, he was very active in helping people with transportation on the church bus and van. Survivors include his wife, Glenda Sue Herndon Reaves of Columbia; one daughter, Sharon (Mike) Kinnard of Columbia; two sons, Charles Reaves of St. Louis, Missouri; David Reaves of Anchorage, Alaska; four grandchildren, Melissa Haynes, Jennifer Street, Michael Kinnard, David Reaves; one sister, Ruby (Frank) King of Burbank, California; and one brother, Joe Reaves of St. Louis, Missouri. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Loy Reaves and Jimmy Reaves. Active pallbearers will be David Craig, Bobby Bishop, Eddie Harris, Charles Webster, Bill Welch, Ross Whitley, Vance Hendrickson, and Jason Golden. Honorary pallbearers include elders and deacons of Graymere Church of Christ and Tuesday Crew at Columbia Academy.
