Mildred Kirk Ball

February 22, 1914 — June 20, 2015

Mildred Kirk Ball, 101, long-time time resident of Columbia, transitioned to her heavenly home Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the home of her daughter in Milton, Tennessee. The family will visit with friends Monday at Oakes & Nichols beginning at 12:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. with family members officiating. Burial will follow in Worley Cemetery in the Hampshire Community. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Affectionately known as "Granny," Mrs. Ball was a 1931 graduate of Hampshire High School and a member of the basketball team in 1927 that played in the Girls State Basketball Championship game. She earned her nursing degree from Nashville General Hospital School of Nursing in 1934 and later attended David Lipscomb College. She practiced nursing in Texas, North Carolina, and Columbia. She served as a nurse for 27 years at Camp Tahkodah in Arkansas. Mrs. Ball was a member long-time, devoted member of West 7th Street Church of Christ and more recently attendedNorth Boulevard Church of Christ in Murfreesboro. She loved to fish, and did so as often as she could until last fall. Her husband, Everett Chesley Ball, preceded her in death in 1987. Survivors include her children, Gale (Curry) Peacock, Jane (Cliff) Sharp, Dianne (Collett) Delk, all of Murfreesboro, and Suzanne (Mike) Stroud of Nashville; grandchildren, Cindy Sharp Nickerson, Candace Sharp, Christy Sharp Sanford, Greg Peacock, Harper Peacock, Celeste Peacock Middleton, Jay Stroud, Jonathan Stroud, Rachel Stroud Weaver, Brent Delk, and Heath Delk; 27 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Ethel Kirk Pogue, Hilda Kirk Pogue, Evelyn Kirk Fox, Leonard Kirk, and Hugh Kirk.
