View Funeral WebcastMrs. Mildred Marlin Parsley, 86, former long-time resident of Wedgewood Drive, died Monday, February 8, 2010 at The Specialty Center of Pensacola. She moved to Pensacola, Florida several years ago to be near her daughter. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. David McGregor officiating. officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to service time at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com.Born in Maury County Mildred was the fifth and youngest child born to Jesse Lee and Helen Potts Marlin. She was a 1942 graduate of Columbia Central High School and later attended Columbia Business College and Falls Business College in Nashville where she trained in bookkeeping and secretarial skills. In 1980 she completed the Medical Assistants course at Columbia State Community College.For most of her career, Mrs. Parsley worked as a medical secretary at Baptist Hospital in Nashville and Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia. In 1986 she retired from employment as a medical secretary from the practice of Drs. Mayfield, Ferrell, and Olson. She was a member of the Medical Assistants Association.Mrs. Parsley was a member of Pleasant Mount Cumberland Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir for many years. Mildred loved travel, fashion, and music and sang with the Highland Rim Chapter of The Sweet Adelines. She also loved dancing, clogging, square, and ballroom. Survivors include her daughter, Dian Parsley and son-in-law, Willis F. Johnson, III of Pensacola, Florida; sisters, Bertha L. Ball of Thompson Station and Vera Gidcomb of Columbia; nieces, Linda Gidcomb of Columbia, Claudette Reed of Thompson Station, and Carol (Mike) Wilson of Bradyville; numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews.The family would like to thank the staff of the Specialty Center of Pensacola and Covenant Hospice for their care and compassion during her final days and hours.
