Monroe Mason Lovell, 87, retired employee of Union Carbide and resident of Kippsford Pond Road, died Saturday at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Anderson Fieldhouse on the Columbia Academy Campus with Andrew Phillips, John Vaughan, Wendell Robinson, and Dr. Bill Thrasher officiating. Burial will follow in McCains Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Monday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com.Born August 8, 1927, in Giles County, he was the son of the late Charlie B. Lovell and Allie Compton Lovell. On March 20, 1964 he married Mary Margaret Erwin Lovell who survives him. Mr. Lovell served in the United States Navy during World War II. After his retirement, he owned Step- Lively Masonry and started the Tuesday Crew for volunteers at Columbia Academy. He was a very avid supporter of Columbia Academy and was honored in many ways, including naming the gym Lovell Hall. In October 2013, Mr. & Mrs. Lovell were inducted into the Hall of Fame at Columbia Academy. He was an active member of Graymere Church of Christ where he participated in many mission trips to Honduras, Panama, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua. Survivors include his wife, Mary Margaret Erwin Lovell of Columbia; daughter, Candy Moon of Atlanta, Georgia; son, Alan (Marylee) Foster of Brentwood; grandchildren, Travis (Sharon) Moon of Atlanta, Georgia, Marsha Foster of Knoxville, and Michael (Samantha) Foster of Nashville; great- grandchildren, Andrew Moon, Matthew Moon, Johnathan Moon, and Landon Foster; sister Aurelia Reed of Columbia; nephew, Dr. Jerome (Kim) Reed of Nashville; several other nieces & nephews, Judy Watson, Sherry Graham, Dean Erwin, Ronnie Erwin, David Erwin, and Debbie Haynes. He was preceded in death by two sons, Mike Tasker and J. W. Foster; brother, L.Z. Lovell. Active pallbearers will be Michael Foster, Dean Erwin, Frank Watson, Andrew Williams, Virgil Lewis, Charles Webster, Phillip Wright, and Dr. Jerome Reed.
