Mr. Anthony Victene "Vic" Bates, 55, Superintendent of Waste Water Treatment for the City of Franklin, died Saturday, February 19, 2011 at his residence on Carol Drive in Columbia.Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Miller officiating. Entombment will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4 - 8 p.m. and Wednesday after 11 a.m. at the funeral home.Memorials may be made to Pet Pals of Maury County, P.O. He was a 1973 graduate of Columbia Military Academy, attended Columbia State and received his B.S. degree in Biology from Middle Tennessee State University. On February 24, 1979 he married Pam Waldrum Bates of Columbia who survives him. Vic had many interests in life among which were motorcycles especially his Harley - Davidson. He loved playing the guitar and was an avid collector of guitars. He was also a silversmith and enjoyed making jewelry.Survivors in addition to his wife are his mother-in-law, Betty Waldrum of Columbia; sister-in-law Beverly (Craig) Fincher of Columbia; brother-in-law Barry (Emily) Waldrum of Murfreesboro; niece Melissa Armbrister; nephews David (Faye) Waldrum, B.J. (Rebecca) Waldrum; seven great nieces and great nephews; several cousins; and his beloved pets, Mandy, Honey, Suzy and Boo.Pallbearers will be Rick Mullen, William Massey, Dave Edwards, Matthew Glenn, Jason Gilliam and Jim Brady.
