Mr Don Harmon

August 2, 1942 — February 16, 2011

Mr. Harlan Don Harmon, 68, retired employee of AT&T and resident of Franklin, died Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Sarah Cannon Cancer Center of Centennial Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Dr. Doug Plumlee and Dr. Jim Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday after 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Room in the Inn, 705 Drexel St., Nashville, TN 37203-4171 or Shalom Foundation, P.O. The Maury County native was the son of the late Harlan Harmon and Virginia Douglas Harmon. He was a 1960 graduate of Columbia Central High School and attended Tennessee Technological University. He was an active member of West Franklin Baptist Church where he served on the Room in the Inn organization for the Homeless and the Shalom Foundation. Don was a former Maury County Commissioner, Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow, former chairman of Maury County Park and of the Maury County Fair Board, former member and past president of Columbia Jaycees and a former TSSAA football official. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Kay Roney Harmon of Franklin; three sons Shane Harmon of Columbia, Todd Harmon of Knoxville and T. Jay (fiancée Alisha Guertin) Warner of Nashville; sister, Jan (Don B.) Harmon of Decatur, Alabama; three grandchildren Somer Harmon of Knoxville, Jay Harlan Harmon of Columbia, William London Harmon of Lewisburg; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Wally Tillman, Don Alderson, Ted Houston, Peter Hudson, Chucky Estes, Tim Napier, J.C. "Colon" Pope and Jim Lindsey. Honorary pallbearers will be members of "The Shop", Wednesday Morning Prayer Group, the Butterworth Boys, Columbia Central Class of 1960, present and past linemen at AT&T and members of the TSSAA officiating crew.
