Maurice Clair Cleveland, 75, died Monday, May 30, 2011 at his residence on Fleeman Road in Lawrenceburg. Graveside services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Friday at Maplewood Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 and Leland Beasley American Legion Post 146. The Pulaski native was the son of the late Foster Cleveland and Sadie Deason Cleveland. He was a 1953 graduate of Campbellsville High School. He joined the United States Navy and served in Korea then was stationed at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. He was stationed in Vietnam followed by a post in Ogden, Utah where he stayed until his retirement. Mr. Cleveland was a member of Leland Beasley American Legion Post 146 in Loretto, Past Department Commander of American Legion of Tennessee, Past Commander of American Legion Post 60 in Pulaski, and a member of VFW Post 4577. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason Lodge 101, a member of Lawrenceburg Elks Lodge 2206 and La Societe Des 40 Hommes E & 8 Chevauk Local 1394. Mr. Cleveland was the oldest active member on roll at Olivet United Methodist Church. Survivors include his daughter Melinda (Larry) Toone of Pulaski; son, Robert Cleveland of Nashville; sister, Judy (James) Maultsby of Pulaski; four grandchildren Mylania Toone, Kinsley Toone, Paisley Rose, Gabrielle Brown all of Pulaski; mother of his children, Linda Davis (Harold) Brooks; brother-in-law Butch Uselton of Pulaski; sister-in-law Barbara Joyce "Bobbi" Gray Cleveland of Lawrenceburg; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Candice Cleveland Brown; a sister, Patsy Cleveland Wilkes; and a brother, Harold Cleveland.
