William "Bill" Cleveland Bishop, 70, died Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at his residence on Manor Road. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Chaplain Jeff Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Nebo Cemetery with full military honors at graveside provided by the United States Navy Honors Unit. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home concluding with Fleet Reserve Honors at 8:00 p.m. The Maury County native was the son of the late William Bishop and Rosetta Potts Bishop. He served twenty years in the United States Navy stationed many places around the world. He was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19, the Naval Fleet Reserve and Vietnam Veterans of America. Mr. Bishop was a quiet man who loved to read, study history, and most of all spend time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of Cross Bridges Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of forty years, Diane Morel Bishop of Columbia; one daughter, Stephanie (Ken) Wooten of Springfield, Ohio; four sons, Robert Paul (Tommie) Robinson of Lexington, Kentucky, William Edward (friend, John Hamilton) Robinson of Springfield, OH, Jeffrey Allen Bishop of Centerville, Christopher (Kara) Bishop of Columbia; two brothers, Joseph (Gail) Bishop of Columbia, John Walker Bishop of Chattanooga; one sister, Gayle (Stanley) Saylor of Columbia; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Martin Eugene Bishop in 1984 and two sisters, Judy Bishop in 1970 and Rose Bishop in 2010. Active pallbearers are Jerry Miller, Wayne Grimmett, Ken York, Rayburn Kelly, Mike McCorkle and Joey Bishop. Honorary pallbearers include members of the Vietnam Veterans Association and Walmart Associates.
