Mr. William Minatra, 90, retired employee of Union Carbide and former longtime resident of West Hardin Drive and Poplar Estates, died Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Hidden Acres Health Care. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Elsey officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Giles County with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 12:00 - 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to West End Baptist Church, 900 West Seventh Street, Columbia, TN 38401. On November 26, 1941 he married Martha Alma Sanders Minatra who preceded him in death on January 29, 2010. He was a 1939 graduate of Giles County High School and served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. In 1999, Mr. Minatra was recognized as a fifty-year Master Mason by the Columbia Lodge Number 31 Free and Accepted Masons. He was a former member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 and a member of West End Baptist Church. Survivors include one sister, Mary Ann Cobb of Nashville; one brother, Bob Minatra of Memphis; one sister-in-law, Jo Ann Sanders of Pulaski; several nieces and nephews; great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Pallbearers will be members of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.
