View Video Tribute Mrs. Margie Ruth Clayton Stockard, 81, resident of The Bridge and former longtime resident of the Knob Creek Community, died Monday, January 24, 2011 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Thursday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Anthony Muston and Rev. Elmer Crosby officiating. Her body will be conveyed to Zion Baptist Church in the Factory Creek Community of Wayne County for a service at 2:30 P.M. with Rev. Nathan Huff and Rev. Anthony Muston officiating. Burial will follow in Gallaher Cemetery in Wayne County. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 1:00 - 3:00 P.M. and 6:00 - 8:00 P.M at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home and on Thursday after 1:30 P.M. at Zion Baptist Church. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Lawrence County native was the daughter of the late Joe Clayton and Maude Sims Clayton. In her youth, she attended Fish Trap Freewill Baptist Church in Lawrence County. During her early adult years, she was employed at Genesco in Waynesboro. She was a former member of Piney Baptist Church in Hohenwald and Zion Baptist Church in Waynesboro. She and her family moved to Maury County in 1975 and she was a member of Knob Creek Baptist Church, where she taught the Ladies' Sunday School class, was a former WMU member and taught Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, gardening and loved flowers. Survivors include her husband Rev. Harvel C. Stockard whom she married March 12, 1948; three children, David Keith (Vivian Yates) Stockard of Columbia, Missouri; Jeffrey Lee (Virginia Hilliard) Stockard of Brentwood; Lora Jean Stockard (Jeffrey Martin) Bryant of Columbia; two sisters, Cleo Keaton and Ruby Clayton, both of Lawrenceburg; six grandchildren, Clayton (Ying) Stockard, Holly Stockard, Amber Bryant, Logan Bryant, Alyssa Stockard, Samuel Stockard; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two children, Gloria Jean Stockard and Thresha "Sis" Stockard; three sisters, Lillian Prince, Alpha Eckert, Grace Gobbell; five brothers, Orville Clayton, Bill Clayton, Clifford Clayton, Wylie Clayton, and Ernest Clayton. Family will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Knob Creek Baptist Church.
