Mumford Frank Cathey

Mumford Frank Cathey, 80, resident of Hampshire, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at his residence.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, October 2, 2026, at 4:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Randy Baxter officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 2:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Morrow Cemetery.

Born July 20, 1946, in Columbia, he was the son of the late Hal Cathey and the late Era Nelle Goodman Cathey. He attended Hampshire High School. On September 12, 1970, he married Wanda Gail Blocker. Frank worked for the State of Tennessee Forestry Department and was a lifelong farmer. Frank enjoyed shopping at the Amish markets, attending auctions, and going to livestock sales. He was a very generous and thoughtful man who loved Christmas and any occasion that gave him an opportunity to give gifts to others. Frank was a member of South Point Church of Christ.

In addition to his wife of 56 years, Gail Blocker Cathey, he is survived by a sister, Shirley (Randy) Boshers; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend of the family, Leonard Embler.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Gilbert Cathey and Earl Cathey.

Pallbearers will be Leonard Embler, Jonathan Jones, Josh Bennett, Alan Walker, Tim Cates, Todd Gilliam, and Gary Riley. Honorary pallbearers will include Ray and Betty Holden, Harry and Evaline Lunn, Darryl and Melissa Potts, Bill and Marlene Tarkington, and Rose Embler.

The family wishes to express their very heartfelt appreciation to his caregiver, Terri Johnson, for the love and care she gave Frank and his family.
