Myrna Joy Cheek Jett

Myrna Cheek Jett, 87, wife of Clayton M. Jett and lifelong resident of Columbia, died Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Visitation with Myrna’s family will be on Tuesday, August 6th, 2024 from 11:00 AM till 1:00 pm at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home, followed by graveside services at 1:30 PM at Friendship Cemetery in Culleoka, TN with Joe Macer presiding and Andrew Tomlin leading singing.

Born November 8, 1936, in Columbia, Myrna was the daughter of the late Ercell Carmack Cheek and the late Gladys Frank Cheek. She was a 1954 graduate of Columbia Central High School. Myrna was a retired insurance agent with State Farm, having worked in the offices of Buck Locke, Moore Landers, and Linda Norton. Myrna was a faithful member of Eastside and Southgate Church of Christ for over 60 years. Myrna loved gardening and singing the old gospel hymns. In her younger days, she enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach and her times as part of the A.B. Jones and Sons women’s softball teams. Above all, she loved her family which was truly the light of her life.

Myrna married Clayton M. Jett on July 29, 1960 and was one day short of their 64th anniversary when she passed. Survivors including her loving husband Clayton are her children Mike (Sonya) Jett of Nolensville, TN and Heather (Matt Cashion) Jett of La Crosse, WI; five grandchildren Ryan (Caitlin Alexander) Jett, Nick Jett, Catie Jett, Brandon Hubbard, and Zach (Lauren) Hubbard; three great-grandchildren Jackson Jett, Caden Jett, and Christopher Hubbard; a brother, Calvin (Nita) Cheek; two sisters, Donna (Alton) Walker and Cynthia Spicer; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved dearly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Tracy Michelle Jett and granddaughter Tara Thacker; her brother Ray Cheek and sister Frankie Rector.

The family would like to thank the staff at Maury Regional Hospital and the Church at Southgate. We also want to thank her special friends, Vera Collier, Sandra Goetz, Linda Norton, Kim Anderson, Dana Daniels, Marlene Harvey, Joanne Belcher, and Sara Bowden for their longtime love, care, and friendship of our mother.
