View Video TributeView Funeral Webcast Nora May Yarbrough Gibson, 88, retired thirty-year employee of Tennessee Farm Bureau and resident of Perkins Lane, died Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Proctor and Rev. Wilson Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Highland Park Baptist Church Building Fund, 1800 Highland Avenue, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born May 28, 1926 in the Henryville Community of Lawrence County, she was the daughter of the late James Oliver Yarbrough and Nancy Elizabeth Newton Yarbrough. On November 29, 1947 she married Endel Lee Gibson who preceded her in death on August 17, 1989. She was a 1945 graduate of Summertown High School and attended Columbia Business College. Mrs. Gibson coached girls' softball and girls' city league basketball for many years and was an avid bowler several years ago. She enjoyed travel and reading. A true Bible scholar, she read her Bible daily and was very devoted to her church, Highland Park Baptist Church, where she had taught children's and women's Sunday School classes and helped in Vacation Bible School. She participated in Precept Bible Studies and taught a women's Bible study in her home for many years. Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Gibson (Ron) White of Greenbrier, Arkansas and Julia Lee Gibson (Steven) Priest of Columbia; two sisters including her twin Flora May Yarbrough Currie of Franklin and Mildred Yarbrough Beasley of Oak Ridge; one brother, James D. Yarbrough of La Vergne; four grandchildren, Bridget White (Mitch) Lewis of Harrah, Oklahoma, Heather White (Jeff) Roberson of Bee Branch, Arkansas, Michael Todd Priest of Murfreesboro, and Matthew Scott (Kelly) Priest of Huntsville, Alabama; six great grandchildren, Courtney Lewis, Dalton Lewis, Cole Roberson, Rhett Roberson, Garrett Thomas Priest, and Audrey Mae Priest; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Cicero E. Yarbrough, Willard T. Yarbrough, and Cullen W. Yarbrough. Active pallbearers will be Michael Todd Priest, Matthew Scott Priest, Mitch Lewis, Jeff Roberson, William Currie, Keith Currie, Jon Yarbrough, Mike Yarbrough, and Ben Beasley. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Thomas Dake, Dr. Paul Perryman, and the Jubilee Sunday School Class of Highland Park Baptist Church.
