View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Nora Eudora Layne Williams, 92, resident of Gallatin and former resident of Columbia, died Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Alive Hospice in Nashville. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Hodges officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 - 9:00 P.M. and Friday from 1:00 - 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Potts Cemetery c/o Dana Walters, 1983 Knob Creek Road, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born December 5, 1921 at her home in West Nashville, she was the oldest of four children of the late Brown James Layne and Gracie Potts Layne. On May 19, 1940 she married Rev. Darnell Williams who preceded her in death on June 9, 1990. Mrs. Williams was employed as a seamstress at Weather-Tamer for several years. She enjoyed quilting and sewing. She worked alongside her minister husband in many Free Will Baptist churches, including Loyal Chapel, Faith, and Blue Springs locally. She was a member of Loyal Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and had attended Hendersonville Free Will Baptist Church since 1990. Survivors include her children, Charles (Vickie) Williams of Spring Hill, twins Damon (Janet) Williams and Gayle Williams (Ted) Vandivort, both of Gallatin, Richard (Rebecca) Williams of Clarksville, Larry (Pegi) Williams of Federal Heights, Colorado, Ken (Brenda) Williams of Mt. Pleasant, and Trish Williams (Roy) Smith of Gallatin; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; four great great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, David Darnell Williams; sisters, Ruth Layne Hayes Overlot and May Layne Harrison; and a brother, Brown James Layne, II. Pallbearers will be Larry Williams, Gregg Williams, Scott Williams, Ted Williams, Jeremy Smith, and Eric Smith.
