Norel Ussery McDonald

Mrs. Norel Ussery McDonald, 96, former longtime resident of Trotwood Avenue, died Sunday, May 19, 2013 at NHC Hillview. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with David Morris and Wendell Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Highland Church of Christ Building Fund, 497 E. James M. Campbell Blvd., Columbia, TN 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Robert Ussery and Zora Sneed Ussery. On April 20, 1935 she married Claude McDonald. Their sixty-eight year marriage ended with his death on June 19, 2003. Mrs. McDonald began working with Gordon's Dress Shop on their opening day and was employed there as a sales associate and assistant buyer for twenty-five years. She was a member of Mynders Community Club and was a member of Highland Church of Christ. Survivors include her sister, Kathleen Davis of Columbia; brother, James Ralph (Clarice) Ussery of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Cecil Ussery, who was killed in the Phillipines during WWII, and Guy Ussery; and a sister, Dorothy Biggs. Pallbearers will be John Ussery, Bobby Sneed, Donald Sneed, Tony Ussery, Tony Sowell, Matt Sowell and Shane Bradford.
