Norma Lee Anderson Ashton, 85, beloved wife and mother, passed from this life surrounded by family on October 26, 2011 in Houston, Texas. A memorial service will be conducted at Southwest Central Church of Christ, 4011 W. Bellfort, Houston, Texas, Friday, October 28 at 4:00 p.m. Graveside services will be Sunday, October 30 at 3:00 p.m. at Haynes Cemetery in Maury County, Tennessee. She was born May 1, 1926 in Clawson, Michigan, daughter of the late Joseph Schley Anderson and Laura Earple Anderson. She was a graduate of the University of Houston and taught history in the Houston Independent School District for 24 years. Mrs. Ashton was a member of Central and then Southwest Central Church of Christ for over 60 years; Delta Kappa Gamma (professional honor society of women educators); and the Candlelight Plaza Civic Club. Her husband, Thomas Jefferson Ashton, preceded her in death January 7, 1977. Norma is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Nedra of Houston, Tim and Julie of Baton Rouge, and David and Susan of Austin; nine grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
