Born on January 14, 1930, in Maury County, Tennessee, Norma was the daughter of the late Augusta Nichols Johnson and the late Carrie Ophelia Riggins Johnson. She graduated from Columbia Central High School with the Class of 1947 and went on to dedicate twenty-five years of faithful service to the Maury County Government. As assistant to the Maury County Executive and Maury County Mayors, she worked alongside Judge John Stanton, Taylor Rayburn, Sam Kennedy, Ed Harlan, and Mike Green, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues through her professionalism, loyalty, and unwavering work ethic.
Norma's greatest joy in life was her family. Her marriage of 34 years to Victor Beck, Sr. resulted in four children, in whom she took great pride. She was a devoted and fiercely protective mother whose love knew no bounds. Her children always knew they could depend on her steady guidance, caring heart, and unconditional support. Family traditions were especially dear to her, and her sons eagerly anticipated the fried chicken dinners she lovingly prepared each year for their birthdays. Her kitchen was a place where family gathered, laughter was shared, and lasting memories were made.
A faithful member of Graymere Church of Christ for many years, Norma quietly served others with a servant's heart. She was well known for preparing baked goods for those who were sick and for bereaved families, expressing Christ's love through simple acts of kindness and compassion.
Norma possessed an adventurous spirit and an appreciation for God's beautiful world. She loved to travel, visiting Germany, France, Holland, Turkey, Switzerland, and many other destinations throughout her life. Whether by cruise ship or traveling by land, some of her happiest adventures were shared with her beloved niece and treasured traveling companion, Judith Everett. Those trips created memories she cherished and stories she loved to share with family and friends. She also was an avid Rook player.
She leaves behind a family who will forever treasure her love and example: her children, Dr. Victor C. (Tricia) Beck, Jr. of Columbia, Teresa (John Tomlinson) Beck of Columbia, Steve (Carol) Beck of Asheville, North Carolina, and Barry (Marie Lancaster) Beck of Nashville, Tennessee; six grandchildren, Vic Beck III (Juli), Adam Beck (Holly), Jason White (Robin), Zach White (Erin), Elizabeth Beck (Bob Biehl), and Mason Smith (Melissa); eleven great-grandchildren, Lilli Beck, Charlie Beck, Jack Beck, Henry Beck, John Beck, Wyatt Beck, Bennett Beck, Bella White, Chloe White, Benjamin White, and R.J. Biehl; beloved stepchildren, Mike (Pam) Rosson, Jada (Chris) Hicks, and Jane (Eddy) Hobson; along with several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Horace Russell Rosson; three sisters, Margaret Blocker Ashton, Ann Green Haney, and Irene Huckaby; and several half-sisters and half-brothers.
Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers and staff of The Bridge for the exceptional love and care they provided Norma during her time there. A special thank you is offered to Christy, Bailey RN, Ann RN, Harley, Melissa, Ruby, Mary, Michelle, Lae-Lae, Lashanda, Caysie, Suede, and Nancy who brought home made diabetic friendly desserts to residents, whose kindness, friendship, and devotion made her feel truly loved and at home.
Norma Johnson Rosson lived a life defined by faith, grace, generosity, and unconditional love for her family. She leaves behind a legacy of quiet service, enduring strength, and countless treasured memories. Her beautiful smile, gentle spirit, and loving heart will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her example of a life well lived will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
