View Funeral Service Norma Ruth Dooley Mayse, 86, died Monday, August 1, 2022 in Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Russ Adcox officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials to Maury Hills Church Building Fund, 101 Unity Drive, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born July 5, 1936 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late James Lester Dooley and the late Eva Aletha Godwin Dooley. She was a 1955 graduate of Columbia Central High. On October 27, 1960, she married Charles E. Mayse who preceded her in death August 19, 2015. Over the span of some 28 years, she served as a teller for the Middle Tennessee Bank, where she was so adored by her customers that many preferred to wait in line for her when other tellers were available. Often after a day at the bank Norma spent hours typesetting and making rubber stamps for local businesses as part of the family’s Rubber Stamp Service. She was a member of Maury Hills Church of Christ. Survivors include her daughters, Donna (Paul) Varner of Columbia; Rhonda Garman of Columbia; sisters-in-law, B. J. Dooley and Cindy Dooley; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, John Garman; brothers, Jerry Dooley, Ronald H. Dooley, James Kenny Dooley; and sister, Carolyn Toungett. Active pallbearers will be friends. Honorary pallbearers include Enoch George, Jim Flowers, Jim Dooley, Larry Dooley, Tommy Dooley, employees of Middle Tennessee Bank, and members of Maury Hills Church of Christ.
