View Video TributeMr. Opal Lee "O.L." Vanderford, 83, retired from Columbia Slag and resident of West 12th St.., died Monday, January 28, 2013 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Dalton Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The Lawrence County native was the son of the late Henry Alanzo Vanderford and Selena Lynn Vanderford. He attended Lawrence County Schools and was married to Ellean Davidson Vanderford who preceded him in death October 22, 2004. He was an avid coon hunter and loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Vanderford was a member of Lanton Church of Christ. He is survived by a daughter, Joyce (Jimmy) Calahan of Columbia; son, Carl Glenn (Margie) Vanderford of Columbia; sisters, Gladys Bradley of Summertown, Helen Rayburn of Alabama; grandchildren, Stephanie (Adam) Mullinax, Jeremy (Amy) Vanderford, Lorrie (Rodney) Runions; great-grandchildren, Chase Runions, Lauren Runions, Alexis Runions, Victoria Vanderford, Alexander Vanderford, Paxton Reid Mullinax; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Delton Vanderford, Ode Vanderford, Alvie Vanderford and sisters, Stella Cleveland, Ethel Hughes and Ada Holloway. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Lanton Church of Christ.
