Oliver Benton Quin, IV, 70, of Venice Beach, California and Columbia, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2016 in Santa Monica, California after a long struggle with cancer. Reared in Columbia, TN, Benton graduated from University of Virginia, and then lived in Washington, D.C. and New York City before eventually settling in California. An active participant in the New York alternative music and arts scene and the California film industry, Benton loved the arts, making films, going to concerts, and spending time with his good friends. He was a member of the Maury County Historical Society, the Maury County APTA, and the Athenaeum Historic District Association; he was also a lifetime Episcopalian and a communicant of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. A true iconoclast, Benton was forever at war with the "squares" and his lifestyle embodied the rock & roll culture he loved so much.In California, Benton's involvement with the film industry started with a bit role in Rock and Roll High School. He wrote a score for a musical about Egypt's King Farouk and at the time of his death, was completing work on the soon-to-be released Stronger than Bullets which chronicled the flourishing underground music scene in Libya during the brief Arab Spring and its subsequent resuppression under theocratic rule. He was a voting member of the American Film Institute and the Screen Actors Guild. He is predeceased by his parents Oliver Benton Quin, III and Harriette Jones Quin. He is survived by his brothers Clark Jones Quin and Richard Hilary Quin; his beloved aunt Pauline Wilkes, as well as numerous cousins and friends.
