View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Mrs. Opal Gordon Holden, 92, resident of West Point Road in the Hampshire Community, died Monday, September 20, 2010 at Life Care Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols with Frank Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Cedar Hill Cemetery or Cedar Hill Church of Christ, c/o Doug Garner, 3524 Hampshire Pike, Mt. Pleasant, TN 38474. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Lewis County native was the daughter of the late Leroy Gordon and Drucilla Crumley Gordon. At an early age she moved to Hampshire and attended Hampshire school. On February 17, 1934 she married Hughes Holden who preceded her in death August 24, 1973. Mrs. Holden was a homemaker and retired private sitter. She enjoyed living on the farm, taking care of her dog Sandy, her flowers and sharing her vegetables with friends. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed having her family and friends over for big meals. Mrs. Holden was a loving Christian woman and the oldest living member of Cedar Hill Church of Christ. Survivors include her daughter, Betty (Billy) Fisher of Columbia; son Ray (Betty) Holden of Columbia; two sisters Doris (Roy) Dye of Hampshire, Nadine (Herman) Grose of Houston, TX; two brothers Robert (Helen) Crowder and Joe (Frances) Crowder both of Goodlettsville; two sisters-in-law Ruby Gordon of New Haven, MI, Alice Garner of Columbia; grandson Dennis (Suzanne) Holden of Columbia; granddaughter Vicki (Peter) Stephens of Ashburn, VA; two great-granddaughters Sophie Holden of Columbia, Bethany Stephens of Ashburn, VA; three great-grandsons Brown Holden and Coben Holden of Columbia and Warren Stephens of Ashburn, VA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, including Nora King of Mt. Joy. She was preceded in death by three sisters Edna Lyles Ward, Katherine Crowder Brooks, Lillie Crowder Curry and one brother, Eugene Gordon. Pallbearers will be Dennis Holden, Peter Stephens, Vernon Brooks, Tim Flowers, Wayne Garner, J.W. Garner, Doug Church and Larry Holden. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Garner, Don Garner, J.O. Thurman, Joe Reischman, J.D. Brooks, Gerald Brooks, Hunt Dugger, Randy Holden, Joe Holden, Ellen Anderson and members of Cedar Hill Church of Christ. Special thanks to caregiver, Shelby Riddle, Dr. Hrishi Kanth and to the staff at Life Care Center for all their special care and concern.
