View Video TributeMrs. Pattye Elizabeth Hight McGrew, 97, retired Registered Nurse and longtime resident of Seventh Avenue, died Friday, February 15, 2013 at her daughter's home on Sunnyside Drive. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Wendell Robinson officiating. A private family graveside service will be held. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Giles County, she was the last surviving child of nine children born to the late John Hight and Bessie Thomas Hight. On December 25, 1942 she married Thomas Neely McGrew, Sr. who preceded her in death on July 14, 2009. She acquired four years training at King's Daughters' School of Nursing and worked as a civilian nurse at Maxwell Field, Alabama while her husband was stationed there during World War II. She retired from King's Daughters' Hospital in Columbia. Mrs. McGrew was a member of Graymere Church of Christ. Survivors include one daughter, Pattye (Jim) Fort of Columbia; son, Thomas Neely McGrew, Jr. of Brentwood; grandchildren, Abby (Eli) Manning of Oxford, Mississippi, Molly McGrew of New York, Lacey McGrew of Franklin; Katherine Elizabeth Fort and Virginia Ann Fort, both of Columbia; great granddaughter, Ava Frances Manning of Oxford, MS; and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be Jerry Moore, Clay Fitzgerald, Jimmy McGrew, Steve Luna, Tim Owens, Wayne Stafford, and Ronnie Erwin. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack White, Robin Jack, and Jerry Hardison.
