Mr. Paul Cummins Kennedy, 72, died Friday, August 16, 2013 at Donelson Place Care and Rehabilitation in Nashville. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Bro. Tom Riley, minister of the Bellevue Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Old Well Cemetery. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com.A native of Columbia, Mr. Kennedy attended Maury County schools and as very young teenager, began his working career with Columbia Dairy Products as delivery assistant. He was a long time member of the Maury County Civil Defense. He always had a desire to work and in 1967 he moved to Nashville to further his options for employment. In 1992, working as security guard, Mr. Kennedy was hit by a car while crossing Bell Road which resulted in his disability. Unable to work he spent his time helping the Church of Christ Disaster Relief Center. Mr. Kennedy was always very active in his church affiliation. He attended and graduated from the Nashville School of Preaching. He was a member of Bellevue Church of Christ where his attendance was difficult due to his disability, and later as a nursing home resident he never let this stop him from attending church. Mr. Kennedy was blessed to have been included in the class of 1960 high school reunions and activities even though he was not a graduate. In 2010, having nearly completed his GED, he suffered a stroke just before graduation. The highlight of his life was a dream fulfilled when in 2010 at the 50th class reunion he was presented with a diploma declaring him an honorary member of the graduating class of 1960.He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Rachel Kennedy. Survivors include his sister, Cecelia (Charlie) Willis of Columbia; nephew and nieces, Clifton Willis of Columbia, Cayce (Randy) Turner of Franklin, KY., and Christy Belew of Columbia; great nieces and nephew, Morgan Belew and Lauren Belew of Columbia, Allison, Amy, Autumn, and Jackson Turner all of Franklin, KY. In honor of Mr. Kennedy memorials may be made to South Gate Church of Christ Youth Playground Fund formerly the East Side congregation where Mr. Kennedy attended for many years and to Old Well Cemetery.
