Pauline Park Lovell

July 30, 1918 — June 27, 2013

In her life, Pauline Lovell witnessed a broad arc of history. As a child, she heard stories from her Civil War veteran grandfather, and as an adult she came to be fascinated by the instant availability of information and communication afforded by modern technology. She remembered that her family was one of the last holdouts in the car vs horse and buggy mode of transportation. She and a brother would often cover themselves in blankets on the floorboards so as not to be seen riding in the unfashionable buggy. Polly, as she was known to her friends, was born on July 31, 1918, in Columbia and graduated from Central High School in 1936. She was happily married to her high school sweetheart from 1940 until his death in 2002. She took pride in her home and family and enjoyed gardening, playing golf and the challenge of a good bridge game with friends. She died on June 27, 2013, one month shy of her 95th birthday. She was the daughter of George W. Park, owner of Park Brothers Feed and Seed Store on Columbia's square, and his wife, Eudora Adkisson Park. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest B. Lovell, and her seven brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children: Suzanne (David) Hall of Columbia, Phyllis (Dr. Bruce) Maley of Jackson, and Judge George (Liz) Lovell of Columbia, and by eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.The family appreciates the care she received at NHC Hillview and The Bridge.Private graveside services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery.
