Peggy Alderson Morgan

Margaret Ann "Peggy" Alderson Morgan, 85, widow of former Columbia Mayor John Allison "Buddy" Morgan, died Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at her residence on Trotwood Avenue. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Friday at Zion Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Zion Christian Academy, 6901 Old Zion Road, Columbia, TN 38401 or the charity of your choice. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson Alderson and Margaret Emily Hardison Alderson. On June 27, 1946 she married John Allison "Buddy" Morgan who preceded her in death on March 19, 1994. Mrs. Morgan was Valedictorian and Student Body Secretary of the 1943 class of Columbia Central High School. She attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. An avid flower lover and gardener, Mrs. Morgan was a member of the American Orchid Society and later became interested in roses. She served as President of the Maury County Rose Society and was a consulting rosarian for the American Rose Society. She achieved the rank of Master Gardner upon completion of studies at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens. She was a member of Terrace Garden Club and served as President of Maury County Garden Club. She was also a member of Middle Tennessee Daylily Society. Mrs. Morgan was a former longtime active member of Central Christian Church where she was a sponsor for the Youth Group, choir member, Sunday School teacher and the only female trustee. She was currently a member of First United Methodist Church. She was a Board member and secretary of the Non-Denominational Youth Crusade (NDYC) and a Board member of Zion Christian Academy. She was a charter member and volunteer for the Good Samaritan Program. Survivors include three daughters, Beth Morgan (Richard) Buchignani of Memphis; Jean Morgan of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Emily Morgan (Alan) Robertson of Franklin; five grandchildren, John Richard Buchignani of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Allison Buchignani of Nashville; Mary Beth Buchignani of New York, New York; Rebeka Robertson (Chris) Noes of Nolensville; Molly Robertson (Peter) McHenry of Williamsburg, Virginia; two great grandchildren, Abby Noes and Margaret McHenry; two sisters, Martha Alderson (L. P. "Bunny") Brichetto of Knoxville; Jeane Alderson (Bob) Argo of Athens, Georgia; sister-in-law, Evelyn Morgan Abernathy of Largo, Florida. She was preceded in death by one sister, Katherine Alderson Crowe and brothers-in-law, Tom Crowe and DeLacey Abernathy. Pallbearers will be John Richard Buchignani, Peter McHenry, Chris Noes, Morgan Abernathy, Mark Abernathy, and Jeff Brichetto. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Argo, L. P. Brichetto, L. P. Brichetto, Jr., John Cain, Terry Mays, Hon. Robert Holloway, Frank Walker, Gene Heller, Frank Duncan, John Bondurant, Dalton Mounger, John Hartling, Alfred Stutts, and Virgil Moore. The family would like to express special thanks to Mrs. Morgan's caregivers, Rose Bondurant, Martha Grace, Kaye Isabell, Shannon Davis and Connie Fralix.
