View Video Tribute R. C. Hutcherson, 97, retired farmer and self-employed house painter, died Saturday, April 13, 2013 at his residence on Carter's Creek Pike. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Kenny McFarland and Joe Roberson officiating. Burial will follow in Lasting Hope Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Born and reared in the Carter's Creek Community, he was the son of the late Walter Green Hutcherson and Nevada Choate Hutcherson and a long-time member of West Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Following a tour of duty in the U. S. Army prior to World War II, Mr. Hutcherson returned to his farm in Maury County in 1939. At the outbreak of the war, he re-enlisted in 1943 and served in the European Theatre of Operation in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He earned the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with four Bronze Service Stars, Bronze Arrowhead on EAME Ribbon. He was discharged in December, 1945. He married the former Johnnie Mae Campbell March 31, 1946, who survives. He is also survived by daughters, Linda (Michael) Bligh of Nashville and Janice (Robert) Chambers of Bowling Green, Kentucky; sons, Ray (Linda) Hutcherson of Columbia and James (Chris) Hutcherson of Kennesaw, Georgia; grandchildren, Carrie Ring, Shannon (George) Stofel and Renee (Bryan) Adams of Columbia; step-grandchildren, Melissa Nemec and Jessica Nemec of Kennesaw, Georgia; six great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Avis of Jacksonville, Florida; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Ellie Hutcherson, Avie Hendrix, Grace Eckel, and Margaret Hutcherson; and brothers, Orville Hutcherson, Hardy Hutcherson, Robert Hutcherson, Clifford E. Hutcherson, and W. M. Hutcherson. Serving as pallbearers are Edwin Hutcherson, Gary Love, Joe Roberson, Ryan Ring, George Stofel, Bryan Adams, Weston Stofel, and Jesse Harrell.
