View Funeral WebcastMrs. Rachel E. White Johnson, 87, resident of Columbia and widow of J.D. Johnson, died Monday, December 29, 2014 at Signature Health Care. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 12:00 noon at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Swango officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. - 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Clifton White and Emma Skelley White and was affectionately known as "Tootsie" to her family. The youngest of thirteen children, Mrs. Johnson took great pride in her large family and being a part of their lives. She was a former longtime resident of Nashville where she was employed at Horace Small for forty-four years. She loved her co-workers dearly and considered them part of her family. She was a member of Fatherland Baptist Church in Nashville. Survivors include her son, Matthew A. Thompson of Leeds, Alabama; sister-in-law, Harriet T. White of Columbia; twin granddaughters, Rachael Thompson and Madison C. Thompson, both of Leeds, Alabama; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and the extended family of her late husband J. D. Johnson. She was preceded in death by six sisters, Marguerite Davis, Frances Powell, Hautie Randolph, Hattie Mai Nicholson, Bertha Loftin, Emmie Huckaby; and six brothers, Elbert White, Fred White, Bob White, C.W. White, Early White, and Hershel "Hut" White. Family will serve as pallbearers.
