Ralph Ezell Reed, 85, retired employee of Union Carbide and resident of Rinks Circle, died Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Adrian Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Davidson County native was the son of the late Herchell B. Reed and Lucille Ezell Reed. On September 16, 1950 he married Sara M. "Peggy" Shires Reed who preceded him in death on January 12, 1992. Mr. Reed served in the U. S. Army/Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 and La Societe 40 & 8 Voiture 1394. He was also a member of the Operating Engineers Local 912. Survivors include two daughters, Karon (Tony) Johnson of Lewisburg; Connie Reed of Cincinnati, Ohio; one son, Royce Rebel (Sheryl) Reed of Columbia; one sister, Katherine Jane (James) Wells of Castalian Springs; sister-in-law, Margaret Reed of Spring Hill; three grandchildren, Larissa Hunter (Jonathan) Thomas and Matthew L. (Catherine) Hunter, both of Lewisburg; Scott Prentice of Columbia; one step grandchild, Rainey Hall of Columbia; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, J. Douglas Reed who died in 1978. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
