View Funeral WebcastMr. Raymond "Buddy" Potts, 90, died Monday, December 28, 2009 at 7:10 a.m. at NHC Hillview. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Wendell Robinson and Kirk Brothers officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Potts was born December 21, 1919 in Hickman County, the son of the late Maury and Clara Mai Potts. While serving in the U.S. Army during WWII he found his passion for mechanics. He loved cars and trucks and worked on vehicles his entire life and retired as a mechanic from TVA after 33 years. Mr. Potts was a Boy Scout leader for many years, a member of the Civitan Club and belonged to and was active in the Columbia Masonic Lodge #31. He was a member of the Highland Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Jean Cushing Potts of Columbia; children, Joyce (Charles) Hubbell of Columbia, Jimmy (Brenda) Cushing of Fayetteville, Harlan (Shirley) Potts of Columbia, Kay (Glenn) Smith of Milton, Florida, Janice (Johnny) Smith, Troy (Heather) Potts and Terri Potts all of Columbia; 24 grandchildren, Cynthia (Paul) Gibson, Jeff (Susan) Hubbell, Jamie (Penny) Hubbell all of Columbia, Tina (Donnie) Doherty of Athens, Alabama, Rick Cushing of Fayetteville, Angela (Mike) Thompson of Spring Hill, Alan Smith, Alden Smith, Aaron Smith all of Milton, Florida, Juanita Potts of Columbia, Leslie (Tim) Morton of Columbia, Amanda (Mark) Leswinski of Brentwood, Katie (JoJo) Allen, Josh (Heather) Potts, Rhonda Westerfield all of Columbia, Eric Westerfield of Manchester, England, Mason Potts, Megan Potts both of Columbia, Evan Potts, Elijah Potts both of Antioch, Dr. Chad (Sue) Smith of Murfreesboro, Tara Smith of Cowan, Erritt Smith and Evinn Smith both of Winchester; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Brown Potts, a son, Michael Lee Potts who died in November 2009, two brothers Haston Potts and Howard Potts and two sisters, Frances Potts Johnson and Elizabeth Potts Eaton. Pallbearers will be Chris Potts, Eric Westerfield, Jamie Hubbell, Paul Gibson, Charles Gibson, Lane Gibson and Ricky Cushing. Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Medlin, Perry Rogers, Allen Elias, Edwin Lovell, Terrell Angus, Billy Huckaby, Dr Thomas Dake and TVA Retirees.
