Rev Eugene Barrett

The Rev. Eugene Boyd Barrett, 86, retired minister of the United Methodist Church, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at his home in Mount Pleasant. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols with Bishop Robert Spain and Rev. Bob Mullenix officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. and Friday from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born in Liberty, Kentucky October 28, 1926, he was the son of the late Lynn Boyd Barrett and Marie Wilson Barrett. He was a retired minister of the United Methodist Church, having served 34 years in the Tennessee Conference. Churches he pastored over the years include congregations in the Enterprise Circuit, St. Luke-Bigbyville Circuit in Columbia, Glencliff in Nashville and over 17 years at First United Methodist in Winchester. Mr. Barrett served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wanda Marie Barrett, his children, Becky (Clifford) King of Mount Pleasant, Brad (Diane) Barrett of Brentwood, and Bob Barrett (Andy Peterson) of Nashville. Grandchildren include Kelly (Dale) Hughes; Colin (Rachel) Barrett, Bradley Barrett, Jr. and Andrew (Julie) Barrett. Great Grandchildren are Corey Hughes and William Boyd Barrett. Brothers include Kenneth (Emily) Barrett of Russellville, KY and Bill (Rose Ellen) Barrett of McEwen, TN. Active pallbearers are Colin Barrett, Bradley Barrett, Jr., Andrew Barrett, Dale Hughes, Andy Peterson and John Lancaster. Honorary pallbearers include Ed Templeton, Victor Rasbury, Waymon Hickman, Clyde Wheeler, Tommy Nicholson, Charles Grooms, Dr. John Simmons, and members of Mount Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
