View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Reverend Edward Argine Hughes, 91, retired long-time Baptist Minister and Heavy Equipment Operator, and resident of Old Williamsport Pike, died Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:30 P.M. at New Song Baptist Church with Peter Sierson officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home and Tuesday from 1:30 P.M until service time at the church. The family suggests memorials to New Song Baptist Church, 2585 Zion Road, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born June 4, 1929 in Giles County, he was the son of the late John Ed Hughes and the late Beatrice Griggs Hughes. He married Willie Mae Emler Hughes and she preceded him in death February 11, 2013. Rev. Hughes enjoyed gardening and working with his church. He was a member of New Song Baptist Church. Survivors include his daughter, Patsy Jean (Bobby) McLain of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi; step-son, Terry Luttrell of Huntsville; grandchildren, James Boswell of Wiggins, Mississippi; Jonathan Boswell of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi; Elizabeth McLain of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi; Rob McLain, Jr. of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi; step-grandchildren, Holly Luttrell; Torri Luttrell; Daniel Luttrell; Anna Luttrell; brother, Ernest Hughes of Lawrenceburg; and several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of Patsy, Gladys Marie Hughes; and sister, Birdie Lee Oakley. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
