View Video TributeView Funeral Webcast Richard Travis "Sam" Blalock, 68, died Saturday, April 5, 2014 at his residence on Joe Brown Road. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with John Waldrum officiating. Burial will follow in Ring Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Ring Cemetery, c/o Jimmy Blalock, 1970 Joe Brown Road, Columbia, TN 38401. Notes of sympathy may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late William Robert "Bill" Blalock and Willie Myrtle Childress Blalock. He worked as an insulator for 30 years and retired from Local 86 of the Insulators Union. Mr. Blalock was a member of New Lasea Church of Christ. He enjoyed woodcrafting, was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and when his sons were playing baseball, coached several teams. He was married October 9, 1965 to the former Mary Ann Dowell who preceded him in death April 14, 2009. Survivors include his sons, Ricky (Jennifer) Blalock, Freddy Blalock, Jimmy (Annie) Blalock, all of Columbia and Jereme "Beezer" (Kelly) Blalock of Culleoka; sisters, Regenia Gilliam of Columbia, Norma Brown and Barbara Goldman Haynes, both of Spring Hill; brothers, William Robert "Billy" (Carol) Blalock, Jr. of Hendersonville, Harold Wayne (Shirley) Blalock and Erwin Danny (Marlene) Blalock, both of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, Abbie Blalock, Shawn Blalock, Kara Blalock, Kaitlyn Blalock, Aaron Blalock, Kaitlin Alderson, and Sam Blalock; several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers are Edward Harmon, Wayne Cook, Will Billington, Buster Billington, Shawn Blalock, Aaron Blalock, and Sam Blalock. Serving as honorary pallbearers are past and present members of Local 86, congregations of Old Lasea and New Lasea Churches of Christ, nieces and nephews, Billy Brown, Maurice Matthews, Brittany and Andy Goodwin, and Larry Brown.
