Richard Dean Reed Sr

June 20, 1940 — April 17, 2011

Richard Dean Reed, Sr., 70, retired employee of Damron Construction and Smith Excavating, died Sunday, April 17, 2011 at his residence on Thomas Avenue. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Swango and Rev. Brandon Stutts officiating. Burial will follow in Knob Creek Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home and at Loyal Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, 109 East 17th St., Columbia, TN, following the burial on Thursday. Memorials may be made to Loyal Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, c/o Mark Boshears Treasurer, 93 Darden Place, Columbia, TN 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Irvin Seay Reed and attended Spring Hill schools. On March 9, 1963 he married Helen Faye Gibson Reed who preceded him in death on January 28, 2009. Mr. Reed was a member of Loyal Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include his mother, Ruby Green Reed; a daughter Cammey (Torey) Kelley of Culleoka; three sons Ricky (Jamie) Reed and Tony (Kathy) Helmick both of Columbia and Jamie (Ann) Reed of Culleoka; nine grandchildren, Kirby Reed, Katy Reed, Kinley Reed all of Columbia, Leah Kelley, Jacob Kelley, Hunter Reed, Emerald Reed, Skyler Reed all of Culleoka, and Shonda Davis of Murfreesboro; four sisters Donna Sue (Ray) Foster of Chapel Hill, Sarah Mitchell of Culleoka, Carolyn Reed of Columbia, Margaret Mishall of Triune; brothers Irvin Seay Reed, Jr. and Freddie (Margaret) Reed both of Columbia, Stanley (Cathy) Reed of Mt. Pleasant, Kenneth "Buck" Reed of Culleoka; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, David Reed and a brother, James Reed. Pallbarers will be Travis Ketchum, Steve Carroll, Danny Gibson, Charles McGaw, Jimmy Damron, Derrick Carroll, Howard Shipp and Mike Shipp. Honorary pallbearers will be Clint Damron and past employees of Damron & Sons; Tim Smith and employees of Smith Excavating; Dr. C. Houston Jameson, III, Dr. Steven E. Woodley, the staff of Columbia Oncology; and Dr. Andrew Sisk.
