View Video TributeAfter a long struggle, Ricky Dean Cates, 53, of the Duck River Community, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 28, 2011 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Bobby Cates officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the only son of the late Velvis Marshall Cates and Betty Jo Davis Cates. He was one of the last survivors of the 1977 jail fire. Ricky was of the Baptist faith and will be greatly missed by friends and family. Survivors include three sisters, Betty Jean (Scott) Boyd, Lily (Wayne) Hutt, Carol Lee Cates-Johnson all of Columbia; several beloved nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and three grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Scott Milligan, Waylon Wilcox, Scotty Nelson, Jimmy Cates, Wendell Witherspoon and Jerry Cleary.
