View Video TributeRicky Lane Nelson, 55, employee of Vulcan Materials in Franklin and resident of Columbia, died Tuesday, November 25, 2014 in Williamson County.Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 11:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com.Ricky was born on December 21, 1958 in Columbia to the late Frank Nelson and Nina McMillion Nelson. He was a long time employee of Vulcan Materials where he drove a Yuke for many years. He mowed lawns for most of his life simply because he enjoyed doing it. Everyone knew him as "The Lawnmower Man" because he loved working on mowers and weedeaters and was able to fix most any of them. Ricky was a simple, good hearted man who was well liked. He loved his family in his own way and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Brandy (Jonathan) Norman and granddaughter, Kaylee Nichols both of Mt. Pleasant; daughter, Kristen (Rodney) Benderman of Columbia; sister, Donna (Billy) Manier of Columbia; brother, Glen (Kristin) Nelson of Columbia; the mother of his children, Joy Lynn Bratton Nelson of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his brothers, Hippie Nelson and David Lee Nelson; mother, Nina McMillion Nelson; father and step-mother Frank and Margie Nelson; grandparents, Georgie and William Everett Nelson; and Lizzie and Herman McMillion.Pallbearers will be David "Country" Ragsdale, Shane Pruitt, Casey Potts, Jared Osborne, Danny Brooks, Terry Brooks, Wesley Crigger and Adam Bratton. Honorary pallbearers include all of his friends and co-workers.
