Robert "Bobby" Childrey

July 17, 1922 — January 21, 2011

Robert "Bobby" Wilburn Childrey, 88, retired truck driver for B & L Oil Company and resident of Parkway Avenue, died Friday, January 21, 2011 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Adair officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, VU Station B #357727, Nashville, TN 37235 or Highland Park Baptist Church Building Fund, 1800 Highland Avenue, Columbia, TN 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late D. B. Childrey and Bertha Lee Robertson Childrey. Mr. Childrey served in the U. S. Army 181st Field Artillery during World War II. He was wounded in the Philippine Islands and received a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. . He was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Marjorie "Jean" Wilson Childrey of Columbia; two daughters, Janice Lee Steriotis of Murfreesboro; Patricia Kay (Mike) Cahill of Atlanta; eight grandchildren, Michelle (Martin) Martin of Port Orange, Florida; Ed Howell of Gallatin; Scott (Inga) Howell of Smyrna; Maria Hughes of Murfreesboro; Kate Demastus of Columbia; Heather Cahill of Brooklyn, New York; Aaron (Ashley) Cahill of Roswell, Georgia; Amanda Cahill of Newman, Georgia; twelve great grandchildren, Shelby Goodgine, Kelsey Howell, Josh Howell, Jana Howell, Laura Howell, Alexander Howell, Hadley Woodward, Hannah Woodward, Jada Hughes, Jamil Hughes, Jaylan Hughes, Jakaiya Hughes; step-great grandchildren, Julian Chapparo, Christian Chapparo, Melanie Bowman and Natalie Bowman. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Diane Childrey; two sons, Larry Wilson Childrey and John Robert Childrey; three brothers, D. B. "Buster" Childrey, Wendell Childrey, Billy Childrey; one sister, Betty Blythe Childrey Goats; and one great grandson, Christopher Chance Goodgine.. Pallbearers will be nephews and grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be men of Highland Park Baptist Church, Sunshine Bible Class, Doris Stewart, Carolyn Myatt, Bobby Jackson and Doug Johnson.
