Pelham, AL

Ronald Everette Young, age 81, of Pelham, Alabama, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026.

Born on September 5, 1944, in Columbia, Tennessee, Ronald was the son of the late William Everette Young and the late Ida Louise Ralston Young. He graduated from Columbia Central High School in 1962 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Tennessee Technological University. Ronald enjoyed a distinguished career spanning more than thirty years with the Tennessee Valley Authority, where he served as an engineer and was respected for his intelligence, dedication, and integrity. While his professional accomplishments were significant, Ronald's true passion was woodworking. A master cabinetmaker and member of the Society of American Period Furniture Makers, he devoted countless hours to the study and creation of museum-quality period furniture. He generously shared his knowledge and craftsmanship with anyone eager to learn, mentoring aspiring woodworkers and encouraging a lifelong appreciation for the art of fine furniture making.

Ronald was a faithful Christian and served as an Elder at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee for many years. He was deeply involved in the life and ministry of the church and treasured the relationships he formed there over many years. After residing for many years in Chattanooga, Ronald recently relocated to Pelham, Alabama, to be closer to his beloved daughters and their families. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, mentor, and friend whose kindness, wisdom, and gentle spirit touched the lives of many.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Laurie and Leon Storie of Ralph, Alabama, and Sarah and Danny Thomas of Pelham, Alabama; his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Barbara Young of Brentwood, Tennessee; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Storie, Lydia and Tanner King, Amelia Thomas, Lane Thomas, and Lily Thomas; his great-grandson, Carter Storie; and his nephews, Bryan Young and Michael Young.

In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his beloved wife of forty-three years, Marcia Katherine Shields Young, whom he married on November 23, 1968, and who passed away on October 27, 2012.

A private graveside service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Columbia, Tennessee. A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. EST on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at New Hope Presbyterian Church, Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Presbyterian Church, 7608 Shallowford Road, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37421. Online condolences may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com.
