View Funeral Webcast Mrs. Ruby Smith Matthews, 93, former resident of West Tenth Street, died Sunday, August 7, 2011 at Signature Health Care. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Brother Coy Reeves officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 5:00 - 7:00 and Wednesday from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Lawrence County native was the daughter of the late Clifford Cecil Smith and Alice Chapman Smith. On May 9, 1942 she married Howard Matthews who preceded her in death on June 3, 1984. Mrs. Matthews was a former supervisor at Weather-Tamer. She was a member of Snow Creek House of Worship. Survivors include one son, Herbert W. (Kim) Adcock of Knob Creek Community; one daughter, Shirley Jean Matthews Ragsdale of Columbia; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three sisters, Lou Willie Ridley and Jewell McCandless, both of Columbia; Alice Bell Mathes of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
