Rubye Jean "Puddin" Johns

Rubye Jean "Puddin" Johns, 85, retired secretary and resident of Myers Avenue, died Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Elsey and Dr. Carl Duck officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to West End Baptist Church, 900 West Seventh Street, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born September 30, 1928 in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Commodore D. Johns and Maude Lynn Johns. Miss Johns was a 1947 graduate of Columbia Central High School. She retired as Executive Secretary from Union Carbide in 1992. She was a charter member of West End Baptist Church. Survivors include her nieces, Jennifer Stratton Johns of Columbia; Sharon Marie Johns (Steve) Glassmeyer of Nashville; nephews, Lawrence Earl (Mary) Johns and Cecil Douglas (Yvette) Johns, both of Columbia; Darrell (Ann) Johns of Cookeville; and great nieces and great nephews, Gracie Glassmeyer, Alexi Johns, Katherine Johns, Laura Johns, and Taylor Johns. She was preceded in death by her sister, Gladys Johns Willis, brothers, Lennie Johns, Hubert Johns, Lloyd Johns, and Cecil Johns, and nephew, Cloyd Mitchell "Skipo" Johns. Active pallbearers will be friends and family. Honorary pallbearers will include members of Joy Sunday School Class at West End Baptist Church.
