View Funeral Webcast Mr. Rufus Villard Haygood, 87, owner of Northway Barber Shop for 38 years and resident of Hampshire Pike, died Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Paul Joiner and Reverend Chad Middlebrooks officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Churchyard with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Monday from 3:00 -7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be made to the Shriners' Children's Hospital, 1308 Trotwood Avenue, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born August 10, 1928 in Lauderdale County, Alabama, he was the son of the late Rufus Henry Haygood and Ovie Ross Haygood. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Columbia Masonic Lodge #31 and the Pleasant Grove Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. Mr. Haygood enjoyed restoring mustangs and small engine mechanic work. He was a member of Zion Presbyterian Chruch. Survivors include his wife Sarah Elizabeth Watson Haygood of Columbia, whom he married December 24, 1954; daughter, Sharon (Dan) Dickey of Columbia; son, Jeffrey (Esther) Haygood of Columbia; grandchildren, William Haley Herbert and John Wesley Herbert; great grandchild, Taylor Kay Herbert; sisters, Marie Huntley, and Myrtle Kimbrell both of Leoma; brother, J.C. (Hilda) Haygood of Tyrone, Georgia. He was preceded in death by one brother, Elburn Haygood; and two sisters, Edith Shultz and Nelda Robbins. Family and friends will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Columbia Masonic Lodge.
