Ruth Peden Bass, 92, homemaker and resident of Spainwood Street, died Monday, May 15, 2017 at Williamson Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with John Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. and Friday from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort, 410 Allied Drive, Nashville, TN 37211 or the American Diabetes Association, Memorial & Honor Program, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born August 1, 1924 in Giles County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late William Bryant Peden and the late Julia Hardwick Peden. On June 7, 1941, she married Owen Griffin Bass and their 70 years and 6 months marriage ended with his death December 30, 2011. A devoted caregiver to her family and friends, she was an excellent cook and seamstress. She enjoyed working in her yard. Mrs. Bass was a longtime member of Graymere Church of Christ, where she was active in the Williams & Riddle Sunday School Class, the Meals Program for many years, and visited nursing homes and shut-ins. Survivors include her daughter, Donna (Mike) Parris of Columbia; son, Ronnie (Alyce) Bass of Bonifay, Florida; grandson, Jeremy R. Bass of Peoria, Arizona; brother, Carl T. (Wylodean) Peden of Campbellsville Community; sister-in-law, Ruby Peden of Pulaski; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ann Harper; and brothers, George Peden, William Morris Peden, Paul Howard Peden, and James B. Peden. Active pallbearers will be Terry Peery, Moore Landers, Fred Porter, Ricky Peden, Alan Tate, and David Taylor. Honorary pallbearers include Ava Eaton, Marcia Jones, Carolyn Hartwick, and Debbie Eaton. The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Christian Friesinger, Amedysis Home Health, and nurse Carole.
