Ruth "Nell" Brown

Mrs. Ruth Genell "Nell" Shires Brown, 84, retired lab tech for DuPont and Spontex, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Vanderbilt Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Kenneth McFarlen officiating. Burial will follow in Jones Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late John Rainey Shires and Pearl Moore Shires. She was married to Joe Fletcher Brown who preceded her in death August 12, 2004. Mrs. Brown enjoyed flowers, gardening, and baseball. She was a member of New Lasea Church of Christ. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Stutts of Highlands, Texas; Carol Hodge of Nashville; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Stutts and Dana (Michael) Jordan, both of Highlands, Texas; Jennifer (Jeff) Howard of Baytown, Texas; Tracie (Larry) Kistler of Friendswood, Texas; Joe Hodge of Nashville; Michael Baltimore of Columbia; seven great grandchildren, Jude Campbell of Columbia; Aron Miller and Amber Miller, both of Friendswood, Texas; Coy Savage and Cheyenne Savage, both of Baytown, Texas; April Gallardo, Ryan Howard, and Ethan Jordan, all of Highlands, Texas; one great great grandchild, Brandon Morse; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Michael Brown in 1952; and one sister, Peggy Reed. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
