View Funeral Webcast Ms. Ruth Able Blalock Doggett, 88, former resident of Highland Avenue, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Life Care Center of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 12:00 noon at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Wilson Henderson and Rev. Mark Proctor officiating. Burial will follow in Ring Cemetery in Pottsville. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Marshall County native was the daughter of the late Enoch C. Blalock and Addie Mai Ring Blalock. She was employed by John Thomas's Grocery for thirty-two years after which she worked for the Daily Herald for several years. Ms. Doggett was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church and a former member of the Volunteer Sunday School Class. Survivors include her sister, Mildred Blalock Chandler of Columbia; son, Phillip Doggett of Arvada, Colorado; grandsons, Jeff Kulas of Spring Hill, Justin Doggett and Travis Doggett both of Arvada, Colorado; and step-granddaughters, Alyssa Smith and Jessica Smith both of Arvada, Colorado. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Blalock on June 20, 2005. Active pallbearers will be Ray Ring, Rick Ring, David Hancock, Harvey Ring, Sam Beddingfield and Ollie Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the volunteer Sunday School Class at Highland Park Baptist Church and former co-workers at The Daily Herald. Mildred would like to express her appreciation to the staff of Life Care Center for the kindness and care they showed to them during Ruth's illness.
