Ruth Dean Chappell Murrell

View Funeral Webcast Ruth Dean Chappell Murrell slipped quietly from this life into the waiting arms of her heavenly family on February 13, 2011 at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, MD. She was a former resident of Columbia and had been residing for the past few years with her daughter in Frederick, MD. Born in Mt. Pleasant, she was the daughter of the late Wallace and Minnie Boshears Chappell. She was preceded in death by her son, James Edward Murrell Jr. in 1972 as well as her husband of 44 years, James Edward Murrell Sr. in 1989. Mrs. Murrell was the youngest and last surviving of seven siblings; sisters, Effie Lee Curtis, Mary Elizabeth Davis, and Helen Elise Douglas; and brothers, Elmer Chappell, Allie Chappell, Maury Chappell, and William Chappell. Mrs. Murrell was a long-time member of Riverside United Methodist Church of Columbia. She also was a long-time member of the Jane Knox Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Murrell Morse and husband, David of Frederick, MD. She was beloved by twin- granddaughters, Caroline Elizabeth Morse and Shelley Nicole Morse and grandsons, Kyle James Morse and Ryan Joshua Morse, all of Frederick, MD. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families in Tennessee. She will be remembered by special friends Mr. Richard Burkeen, Gary and Libby Moss and Ms. Eloise Buchanan of Columbia. The family would like to thank Dr. Nirmal Shah, Dr. Robert Crouch, Dr. Praveen Bolarum, and Dr. Brian O'Connor for their compassionate care. The family would also like to thank the staff of Oncology Care Consultants and the nursing staff of Frederick Memorial Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, April 20th at 3:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Garie Taylor officiating. Inurnment will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. Visitation with friends will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Riverside United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 392, Columbia, TN 38402-0392.
