Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Sadie was born in Mt. Pleasant and was the third of six girls. She left the family farm at the age of 18 for Washington D.C. where she worked for the FHA as a secretary for Eleanor Roosevelt. She joined the Marine Corp when WWII began and was stationed in Hawaii and was part of the reoccupation task force in Japan following the war. She also served in the Air Force during the Korean War. She retired from the IRS after 35 years as an auditor. Finding that retirement didn't suit her, upon her return to Columbia, Sadie managed an H&R Block office in Franklin before starting her own tax service which she enjoyed tremendously. She was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church where she served for many years as librarian of the Ruby Owen Memorial Library, as a Sunday School teacher and on the finance committee. She spent the past few years in Savannah, GA with her daughter, Patti Carr Lyons and son-in-law, Patrick Lyons. She had a life of adventure and her spirit will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, she is survived by her sisters Ann Nelms (Deloy) of Cookeville, TN and Billiej Boshers of Nashville, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents Anna Amelia Wagner and William Jay Owen and sisters Ruby Owen, Florence Thompson and Gladys Davidson. She will be missed by her large family including nieces and nephews: Nancy Davidson, Art Thompson (Ellen), Marsha Thompson Woody (James), Cindy Nelms, Susan Nelms, Dr. Jonathan Nelms (Glenda) as well as her Lyons family in Savannah.
