Sandra Lentz Gibson, aged 72, passed into the arms of her Savior on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center following a short illness. A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday 4:30 p.m. at Polk Memorial Gardens with Reverend Bob Vassar officiating. The family will visit with friends at the graveside. Condolences maybe offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Mrs. Gibson was the devoted wife of Coy Eugene Gibson for 30 years, and they raised four children together until his passing in 1997. Since that time, Mrs. Gibson enjoyed becoming a doting grandmother to her two eight-year old granddaughters. Although Mrs. Gibson was born in Irvine, Kentucky, she was a lifelong resident of Columbia. She was the daughter of William A. Lentz of Columbia and Christine Shearer Lentz of Irvine, Kentucky. Mrs. Gibson graduated in the top ten of her class at Central High School in 1960. Following graduation, she was employed in several clerical positions, including at the Baptist Sunday School board and United Cities Gas Company where she met Mr. Gibson, before becoming employed at General Electric. She retired from there following twenty years of service. Besides being a dedicated and loving mother to her two children, she also loved and shared in the parenting of her two step-daughters. During most of her life, Mrs. Gibson was an active member of First Baptist Church until her later years when she joined West End Baptist Church. Mrs. Gibson enjoyed reading, caring for her cats, working with stained glass, painting, and knitting. She blessed her family and friends with her lovely smile, generous heart, and gifts from her talented hands. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lori Gibson & Steve Napier of Columbia; son and daughter-in-law, John Mark and Christy Gibson of Powell, Tennessee; step-daughters, Vicky Jean Gibson of Nashville, and Kimberly (Mike) Pigg of Columbia; granddaughters, Charlotte Grace Napier of Columbia and Anna Claire Gibson of Powell, Tennessee. Mrs. Gibson was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Bill Lentz, and her husband.
