Mrs. Sara Frances Sharp Davis, 89, longtime resident of Columbia, passed away Monday, November 12, 2012 at Signature Healthcare with the caring support of Avalon Hospice and surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Jones Cemetery with Brother Curtis Dowdy, Larry Cole and Bob Thurman officiating. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Highland Church of Christ Building Fund; 497 E. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Luther Eugene Sharp and the late Martha Katherine Jackson Sharp. She married John Smith Davis on January 12, 1940. They shared nearly fifty years together until his death on December 11, 1987. Mrs. Davis was employed with Dixie Manufacturing Company, Weather Tamer and retired from Maury Regional Medical Center dietary division. She was an excellent cook and loved working with flowers. She was a member of Highland Church of Christ for sixty years where she attended regularly until her failing health and was an active volunteer in the church's clothes closet for many years. Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Carol (Alfred) Haywood of Columbia; son, James Terry (Shirley) Davis of Foley, Alabama; granddaughter, Shannon Davis of Columbia; grandsons, Delano (Tonya) Haywood of Columbia, John Dana (Stephanie) Haywood of Brentwood; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Haywood, Katie Haywood, Jessie Spears (Jimmy Marshall), Kayla Floyd; great-great grandson, Mason Marshall; brother, Julian (Rose) Sharp of Columbia; brother-in-law, Edwin Derryberry; sister-in-law, Roberta Kirk; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by brothers, Alton Sharp, L.E. Sharp, Jr.; sister, Martha Sharp Derryberry; and grandson, Preston Davis. Active pallbearers will be Wayne Sharp, Jerry Sharp, Tim Sharp, Stephen Sharp, Gary Ligon, Jimmy Marshall and Kelsey Haywood. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. R. Douglas Kennedy, employees of Signature Healthcare and employees of Avalon Hospice.
